Youth Action Group

Alice Springs Town Council's Youth Action Group (YAG) is a group for young individuals, meeting once a month to discuss youth issues in Alice Springs, and come up with wasy to address those issues. The group organises a range of youth-focused events throughout the year. 

YAG aims to empower young people by including them in Council decision-making, helping them to develop new skills, and encourage a positive perception of young people in Alice Springs.

Meetings are held monthly. Young people under the age of 25 can get involved today by contacting the Youth Services Officer on 8950 0500, or following the Youth Action Group on Facebook or Instagram.  

Youth Arts and Music Festival

The Youth Action Group brings you the tastiest of festivals – YAM Fest! – incorporating an exciting range of arts and musical events and initiatives. It is the highlight of the year for young people in Alice Springs.

In 2019 the Youth Action Group is turning its focus to the music aspect of YAM. The festival will consist of music workshops as well as an open mic and concert.
Get ready to see Alice Springs most talented young performers as well as a special performance from interstate rapper/hip-hop artist J-Milla.

 Stand Up!

Stand Up! is an empowerment and leadership project encouraging female and non-binary identified young people to become future leaders. The week-long program aims to show our next generation of leaders how to make change, by:

  • supporting participants to network with local community leaders
  • attend and speak at a Council meeting
  • participate in roundtable discussions about gender and equality issues
  • learn leadership skills such as public speaking and advocacy
  • and meet other future leaders.

We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people with disabilities to apply.

Phoney Film Festival 

Are you a creative young person, or know someone who is? The Phoney Film Festival is a short film festival of films shot on smartphones or tablets, and open to young people aged 12 to 25. Films must be under five minutes duration, and can be across any category / genre including: action, drama, horror, comedy, real life … get brainstorming!

The Phoney Film Festival is a film festival specifically for young people, with films being shot on smartphones or tablets, and a range of awesome prizes to be won for various categories. Entries will be screened at the Alice Springs Cinema, with winners announced on the night. This is a free event, and everyone is welcome to attend. Come along, watch some awesome short films made by creative young people, and vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Youth Recycled Art Prize

As part of NT Youth Week, the Youth Recycled Art Prize offers young people in Alice Springs the opportunity to develop their creative talents, have their work exhibited, and win great prizes – all while learning about recycling. All exhibited artworks are made from recycled / reused materials. Prizes are awarded for winning entries, including a People’s Choice Award.
